Suprax antibiotic – a semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic of the third generation. It is a bactericidal agent with antibacterial wide spectrum effect. Suprax antibiotic is to be taken orally.
Indications for Suprax antibiotic use: inflammatory disease, infectious disease (e.g.: uncomplicated urinary tract infections), caused by drug susceptible microorganisms; bacterial infections of upper and lower airways (bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis and pharyngitis); uncomplicated gonorrhea of the cervix and urethra, endometritis, otitis media and bone abscess.
The recommended daily dose of Suprax antibiotic for adults and children over 12 years old with body mass >50 kg – it is the dosage of 400mg for approximately 7 or 10 days of using the drug. The daily dose of Suprax antibiotic can be taken 1 time or 2 times (one dose divided in two). In uncomplicated gonorrhea – the daily dose of Suprax antibiotic is 400mg (it is recommended to take it just 1 time a day).
The drug is contraindicated in hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporin and their derivatives; in pregnancy and breastfeeding period. In case of pseudomembranous colitis (in anamnesis), chronic renal insufficiency as well as in children’s age (less than 6 months) and elderly age – the drug should be taken carefully.
Suprax antibiotic can cause side effects:
- Urogenital system: vaginitis
- Nervous system: dizziness, headache and sonitus (noise in ears)
- Allergic reactions: itching of skin and in genital area, nettle-rash, eosinophilia, hyperemia, erythema multiforme, fever
- Urinary system: interstitial nephritis, kidney dysfunction
- Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipations, stomatitis, stomachache, dysbiosis, pseudomembranous enterocolitis, cholestasis, cholestatic jaundice
- Blood-forming organs: leukopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, hemorrhage, hemolytic anemia
- Laboratory parameters: hyperbilirubinemia, increased BUN, increased prothrombin time and hypercreatininemia.
In case of overdose with Suprax antibiotic, it is recommended to carry out an immediate gastric lavage. Though, peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis are not effective in this case.
